The Wednesday Club’s Comic Picks: The Kids Are All Right

The Wednesday Club is Geek & Sundry’s weekly talk show chatting about all things comics. This week, hosts Matt Key, Taliesin Jaffe, and Amy Dallen talked about the comics that dominate the sales charts, but you may not have heard of them–graphic novels for kids by Raina Telgemeier.

If you ask any kids in the tween ages (8-12 years old) what they’ve been reading lately, chances are they’ll answer with a book written and illustrated by Raina Telgemeier. “She’s a one person phenomenon,” Amy said.

Raina’s all-ages books are realistic and compelling, some of which are based on her own experiences in middle and high school. Her books capture that time of life so well that the hosts of The Wednesday Club found themselves easily transported back to their own misadventures in their preteen and teen years.

“There’s a generation of kids being shaped by this stuff,” Amy said.

“There’s such a bright hope in that,” agreed Matt.

The hosts also mentioned kids’ books Captain Underpants, Axe Cop, and Awkward.
